About the Australasian Research Management Society (ARMS)

The Australasian Research Management Society (ARMS) is the Australasian association of research management professionals. Flinders University is the host organisation for the ARMS Executive Office and provides resources for the Society to operate its business at Flinders University’s Bedford Park Campus.

Since its founding in 1999, the ARMS network has grown to involve more than 4000 members from universities, independent research institutions, government and health and research organisations from across the Australasian region including Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.

Our mission is the development of research management professionals; the promotion of the profession of research management; and the advancement of the research enterprise and is fulfilled by:

  • A strong, agile and resilient network of research management professionals at all levels and in a variety of settings through personal relationships and professional collaborations, presentations, formal and informal meetings and publications.
  • Development and promotion of international best practice for research management in Australasia and Singapore that is responsive to the changing factors that influence the research environment; and
  • Enhancement of the interface between researchers and research management professionals.

About the Partnerships, Education and Policy Manager

The Partnerships, Education and Policy Manager is multifaceted role focused largely on expanding partnership engagement and business development to support the growth of ARMS ‘membership base and the diversification of ARMS revenue sources. The role also plays an integral part in supporting ARMS’s mission in advocating the importance of research management.  The incumbent will therefore work with key member groups in the preparation of  responses to policy consultations and similar initiatives.

The ideal candidate would be someone with a strong background in partnership management, business development, and advocacy within a not-for-profit or similar organisation. They should also be adept at program development and have experience working with committees and small teams. Excellent communication skills, strategic thinking, and a passion for the Society’s mission will also be essential.

Interstate and International travel may be required, as well as some afterhours work. A reduced employment fraction may be considered for the right candidate.

About You

A high-level communicator and go getter, you can develop and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write reports, discussion papers, business plans, guidelines, and processes. You will have experience working in a senior level role with an understanding of research management and a detailed understanding of the key responsibilities of research management professionals.

In this role you will also demonstrate:

  • A high-level of experience in providing timely strategic advice, high level analytical skills and business acumen to develop new initiatives and business development models and partnerships.
  • Experience in the review of policy, procedures, and practice in implementing new processes, resources, and systems for business development activities.
  • Outstanding attention to detail, exceptional follow though and an ability to focus on strategic agendas while managing day-to-day job activities.
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, energy, and self-motivation with a flexible, outcomes and solutions-oriented attitude and approach.
  • Experience working in the not-for-profit sector (desirable).

You will also have postgraduate qualifications and relevant experience; or extensive management and proven management expertise; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education and/or training.  Preferably, experience in a business development/ education and professional development/ policy and advocacy or related areas, preferably in higher education.
