About the team:

Your future position is in the Computational Materials Physics at the Faculty of Physics. Currently, the research group consists of three professors, several postdocs and PhD students. We focus on the development and application of first principles methods and theories for studying the properties of strongly correlated materials (solids and surfaces). In particular, the research is based on the VASP code, on our in-house Diagrammatic Monte Carlo code and on several Machine Learning software. Computing time is available on our local cluster as well as on the Vienna Scientific Cluster (VSC).

Your future tasks:

The recruited candidate will work in the Quantum Material Modelling group (Franchini group). Interactions with experimental and theoretical groups in Vienna are highly desirable. The postdoc will be involved in teaching, student supervision and administration.

Specific tasks:

  • You participate in research projects and studies.
  • You develop new ideas, new computational or theoretical architecture, novel applications.
  • You publish internationally and give presentations.
  • You supervise and guide students at bachelor, master and PhD level.
  • You are involved in organizing meetings, conferences and symposia.
  • Responsibility for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding.
  • Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement.
  • Take on administrative tasks in research and faculty.

Qualifications:

These are your qualifications:

We seek a candidate expert in theoretical condensed matter physics and in advanced electronic structure approaches, in particular, but not restricted to: computational magnetism, computational surface science, polaron and electron-phonon physics and willing to expand our portfolio of numerical methodologies and machine learning algorithms. Candidates with expertise in these fields, with good analytical skills and capable to interact with experimental colleagues will be given preference. Candidates have an outstanding record and a concrete and original research plan in front-line topics.

Required qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics or Theoretical Chemistry.
  • Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in theoretical and computational condensed matter physics.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Good experience in script/code development and analytical skills.
  • You are a team player with high social and good communicative skills.
  • You are reliable and can work autonomously.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Teaching experience.
  • Experience in international collaborations.
  • Experience in student supervision.
  • Experience in Machine Learning approaches.
