About the Role
Join us as a member of the material characterisation team at the Ian Holmes Imaging Centre. You will be responsible for providing intrument training to new and experience users as well as scientific advice relevant to the facility, liaison with users to determine their requirement, liaise with the other electron microscopy capabilities relevant to scanning and elemental analysis.
The Facility includes 10 electron microscopes, including 3 automated cryoTEM (Krios G4, Talos Arctica and Glacios) and a cryo FIB (Aquilos 2) as well as 2 Scanning Electron Microscopes, equipped with elemental analysis systems (EDS).
Your responsibilities will include:
- Manage and train users in Scanning electron microscopy and other related techniques.
- Carry out high quality research developing testing /techniques in the field of surface, volume and/or elemental analysis.
- Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the instrumentation and procedure the appointee will be responsible for.
- Prepare and present technical reports, conference and seminar papers and publications associated with research projects
- Contribute to training, scientific mentoring and supervision of students.
- Oversee the day-to-day use and maintenance of the surface and analytical instrumentation.
Who We Are Looking For
You will demonstrate leadership capabilities, be ready to explore new challenges, and integrate seamlessly into the diverse staff group at the Ian Holmes Imaging Centre.
You will also have:
- A PhD in Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Advanced postdoctoral experience and expertise in SEM and/or TEM and elemental analysis.
- Postdoctoral research experience in using scanning electron microscopes and related equipment.
- Advanced hand-on research experience in electron microscopy and elemental analysis.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
