The Mathematics and Mathematics Education (MME) Department at the NIE is part of the Singapore mathematics education ecology that has produced a world-class system for students of varied abilities. Our vision is to be a world-class symbiosis of mathematics educators and mathematicians. A mathematician educator is a teacher of mathematics who bases his/her pedagogy on a strong foundation of mathematics disciplinarity, learning theories and mathematics education research findings. Our mission is to nurture mathematician educators for Singapore and the world through research and exemplary teaching. MME staff engage in research in mathematics education and mathematics to meet the needs of teachers within a changing environment, upholding the mathematical rigour essential to a productive STEM education. We constantly seek innovative and research-informed ways of delivering mathematics content and pedagogy courses in an effort to develop best practices as we collaborate with educators in the schools.

We invite qualified applicants to apply for the Assistant Professor/Associate Professor position in the area of Mathematics / Statistics.

Requirements  

The successful candidate should satisfy the following criteria:

  • A PhD in Mathematics/Statistics from a reputable university.
  • A strong record of research and publications in reputable peer-reviewed international journals. 
  • A strong record in university teaching in mathematics courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students. 
  • (Preferably) Has past experience teaching in schools for K-12 levels.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • contribute to teaching and course development at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels for mathematics.
  • develop a research programme and secure competitive research grants.
  • supervise graduate and undergraduate students in mathematics/statistics research and school practicum
  • teach mathematics/statistics courses from pre-service to postgraduate level
  • teach advanced mathematics/statistics content courses for undergraduate pre-service teachers
  • (For Associate Professor) mentoring of young faculty members and serve in the NIE / NTU committees, and offer professional services to schools, the Ministry of Education and other public education-related organizations on a request basis.
