We now invite applications for appointment as Teaching Assistant in the Faculty of Education.

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has established a Common Core Curriculum (CCC) for all undergraduates since September 2012. The Common Core has four Areas of Inquiry - Science, Technology and Big Data; Arts & Humanities; Global Issues; and China: Culture, State and Society - that span the ten academic Faculties of HKU with English as the medium of instruction. Information about the Common Core Curriculum can be viewed at https://commoncore.hku.hk/introduction/.

The CCC course “CCST9076 Attention Magnet: The Psychological and Technological Aspects of Social Media Addiction” aims to introduce both the underlying technical mechanisms and psychological factors that cause behavioral addiction to social media, as well as to drive a collective effort to develop solutions for minimizing social media addiction and maximining the beneficial use of social media in both social and academic settings.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will assist the course coordinator in the teaching of the CCC course CCST9076, conducting small-group tutorials (8 sessions per week, 50 mins per session, 10 weeks in total), marking assignments, preparing materials, supervising student work, co-grading all final assignments according to the course requirement, and undertaking related tasks as assigned.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Information Technologies, Education, or a related field. Those with teaching experience and familiar with the CCC courses at HKU are highly preferable.

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on a temporary full-time basis for six months, to commence on January 1, 2025.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.

How to Apply

The University only accepts online application for the above post.  Applicants should apply online and upload a cover letter stating their relevant experience and training and explaining how they could meet the above requirements, and an up-to-date C.V. with contact information of two referees.
