You will become part of the Key Research Area History of Science at the Department of History and work closely with colleagues from Vienna as well as national and international networks. The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a declaration of non-extension.

Your future tasks:

  • You actively participate in research, teaching and administration, which has the following aspects: your main task is drafting, researching and completing a dissertation, in Vienna this includes signing a dissertation agreement with the faculty within the first 12-18 months, developing an independent profile, publishing and lecturing activities.
  • Furthermore, the candidate will be involved in organizing conferences, participate in teaching and independently teach seminars (initially one course per semester).
  • You will represent the history of science in the B.A. and M.A. programmes of History, as well as in the M.A. Epistemologies of Science and Technology, a programme co-organised jointly with the faculty from STS and the philosophy of science.

This is part of your personality:

  • You have a good command of several fields within the history of science, and an excellent command of present methodological developments; an expertise in historical/political epistemology, or epistemic decolonization is of advantage.
  • Ideally, you have a dissertation project for instance in the social history of quantification (enquetes, statistics, indicators, models, plans, administrative metrics, (living-) standards) OR the history of colonial sciences (ethnology, indigenous law, agricultural sciences, etc.), or another field actively researched in Vienna.
