About the Role 

This role will lead the evaluation activities associated with the Medicines Advice Initiative Australia (MAIA). Working closely with the Project Director and Academic Lead, the position will take responsibility for evaluation activities, including evaluation planning, protocol development, data analysis and communication of results in both written and verbal formats. The position will also supervise research students.

Funded under the Quality Use of Diagnostics, Therapeutic and Pathology Program Health Professional Education Grant the MAIA project will provide up to date health and medicines information specifically tailored for general practitioners. The activities of the project will be adapted from the successful Veterans’ MATES program and are underpinned by the guiding principles of Australia’s National Strategy for Quality Use of Medicines.

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • PhD qualification in a health care/data science discipline with an understanding of medicine issues 
  • Advanced technical capacity using statistical software (such as SAS or Stata) and experience conducting analyses of large datasets 
  • Demonstrated attention to detail in the maintenance of data with an understanding of confidentiality/privacy laws relating to the use of medical and health data 
  • Knowledge of the ethical and regulatory requirements associated with research 
  • Competency in recording, analysing, presenting and disseminating research to stakeholders and preparation of papers for high quality publications
