Glasgow College, UESTC and Glasgow College Hainan, UESTC are joint educational institutes established by the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) and the University of Glasgow (UofG). Glasgow College, UESTC was established in January 2013, located in Chengdu, China, while Glasgow College Hainan, UESTC was established in April 2022, located in Hainan, China.

The institutes invite applications for full-time teaching-focused positions at all levels (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor) in the fields of electronics, communications, microelectronics, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Successful candidates can be based in either Chengdu or Hainan, but may be expected to teach at both campuses.

Job Posting Details

The aim of these posts is to support the development and delivery of innovative teaching, with a particular focus on our existing dual undergraduate degree programmes in Electronic Information Engineering, Communications Engineering, and Microelectronic Science and Engineering. The medium of instruction is English.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

To deliver 300 hours of teaching each year, including but not limited to lectures, tutorials and lab supervision To supervise and assess project work, final-year projects and dissertations To supervise the work of Graduate Teaching Assistants To contribute to the continuous optimization and reform of our undergraduate teaching model To contribute to the management and organization of teaching activities To engage in other teaching-related activities and student support services To undertake research and scholarship in the field of teaching and learning  

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

A PhD degree (or equivalent) in related discipline Excellent command of both spoken and written English; a basic understanding of spoken and written Chinese would also be an advantage. Candidates for Assistant Professorial positions should have a minimum of 2 years of full-time teaching experience and a proven ability to develop and deliver innovative and impactful teaching.

• Candidates who wish to be considered for Associate Professor or Professorial positions should have a substantial track record in teaching excellence and an internationally recognised reputation.

Remuneration and Benefits

A competitive base salary, with exceptional candidates considered for special adjustments. Monthly housing allowance, medical insurance, and international round-trip travel allowance. Relocation allowance covering one-way air ticket and temporary accommodation. Partial reimbursement for costs related to authentication of non-criminal records, terminal degree, entry visa, and residence permit. Paid Chinese public holidays and summer/winter vacations. Assistance with work permit procedures.

About Hainan

Hainan Province is an island province and tropical paradise, located at the southernmost tip of China. In 2022, UESTC and The University of Glasgow commenced delivery of degrees on the Lingshui Li’an campus, near Sanya. A number of other Sino-foreign university partnerships, including Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications/Queen Mary University of London, operate alongside our own, where we benefit from a shared service model. With just over 400 students at present, we have ambitious plans for the future and hope that in steady state, our undergraduate student numbers might be similar to those in Chengdu (c. 2.5K). There is also potential for us to offer Masters degrees and, in time, a dual PhD programme, subject to government approvals.
