About the Role 

The Department of Civil and Construction Engineering are seeking a qualified academic to join the team and undertake teaching and research activities in areas related to sustainable civil infrastructure and digital construction engineering including fields related to construction materials, transport or construction management.

In this role, you will contribute to the teaching programs of the Department at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, which includes developing and supporting academic programs and working with the academic team in the development of program change and innovation. You will also be responsible for providing mentoring and support to students on academic matters, and supervising Honours and Masters by Coursework students.

To be successful in this role, you will have experience in areas such as concrete technology, digital construction, transport modelling, data analytics, machine learning, modelling, design, asset management, remote sensing or digital mapping. The focus application areas may include smart infrastructure including intelligent transport systems, construction, renewable energy infrastructure, and lifelines. You will work in a collaborative team environment to develop new areas of research and contribute to the University’s research excellence and impact in partnership with external partners, and make original and innovative contributions to the advancement of future urban infrastructure and development of disruptive interventions and technologies that will enable step-changes in emerging and future civil engineering practices.

About You  

To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to undertake teaching and associated academic duties at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Proven track record of quality publications related to smart urban infrastructure or digital engineering.
  • Demonstrated track record in attracting and managing competitive research grants or direct industry funding.
  • Demonstrated ability and involvement in research through collaboration with other universities, industry and/or government.
  • Experience in research student supervision is preferred. 

Qualifications

  • Doctoral qualification in Civil Engineering or a related field. 
  • Member of relevant professional society is preferred. 

The Department of Civil and Construction Engineering

Civil and Construction Engineering at Swinburne is a world-class learning and research Department within the School of Engineering. In 2022, the Department was ranked 67 worldwide for civil engineering according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. The Department has a highly dedicated team of about 20 teaching and research staff and is home for around 450 (EFTSL) undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students, in addition to more than 80 higher degree research students. The Department’s research is supported by a strong research environment within the University. This includes Australia’s first Trimble Technology Laboratory, and a number of world-class laboratories including Swinburne’s Smart Structures Lab, Digital Construction Lab and Geotechnical Lab. Our research is supported by many grants from national competitive funding schemes, in addition to extensive funding from CRCs, industry and other national and international bodies.
