About Flinders Rural and Remote Health NT

At Flinders Rural and Remote Health NT, our aim is to be a hub for innovative health research, education, and workforce development across the Northern Territory.  We engage with students, community, and stakeholders to provide critical programs, such as the Northern Territory Medical Program, Paramedicine, Rural Clinical School, and the University Department of Rural Health.

Our postgraduate education pathways (Remote Health Practice program), provides workforce development through Indigenous health and clinical skills training, and we have a community driven research program led by researchers committed to improving health outcomes. We work alongside Poche SA+NT focussing on Indigenous leadership capacity development and developing the Indigenous health workforce.  All activities are driven by our values which focus on the long-term and short-term needs of the NT community.

About the Role

The Associate Lecturer will be a key member of the academic staff of Aboriginal Health in the College, contributing to quality research and evaluation, as well as the planning and delivery of teaching. This includes development of teaching materials, delivery of lectures/tutorials or other innovative teaching and learning strategies, examinations and placement education with cultural context.

The incumbent will be required to contribute to strengthening existing partnerships or exploring new partnerships with external stakeholders that have the potential for providing improved teaching, learning and/or research outcomes for the University.

The filling of this position is intended to constitute a special/equal opportunity measure under section 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and s57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1995 (NT). The position is therefore only open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants. Appointment to this position is subject to evidence of Aboriginality being provided.

About You

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Completion of 4 years of tertiary study or equivalent qualifications and experience in Aboriginal Health
  • Successful experience or capability teaching, training, mentoring or supervising students in order to maximise their learning
  • Evidence of research and/or evaluation experience within Aboriginal Health or a related discipline
  • An understanding of the nexus between teaching and learning, research and scholarship
  • Capability to engage with e-learning platforms for teaching purposes
  • Experience in communicating with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, key stakeholders, and their representatives to achieve positive outcomes
  • Familiarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues and an understanding of the social determinants of health as they impact Indigenous Australians.
