HEAD OF SCHOOL, SCHOOL OF DESIGN COMMUNICATION
LASALLE College of the Arts is a leader in design education in Asia, training highly skilled designers to be creative disruptors, thinking practitioners, and enterprising leaders.
The Faculty of Design is looking for a dynamic, inspiring, and edgy creative individual to lead its award-winning School of Design Communication which offers Diploma, BA (Hons) and MA programmes.
The Head of School will lead the dynamic field of design communication, bringing unique and innovative perspectives to a changing student demographic and a highly interdisciplinary and multipolar world. You will raise the School's profile internationally and develop strategic industry partnerships with design and non-design sectors in Singapore and around the world.
The role requires you to develop strategies, implement operational plans, oversee and mentor a dedicated teaching team and foster a research culture.
Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Design, this is a key leadership role in the Faculty and the College.
As the field of design is rapidly evolving, candidates from a wide range of areas, including arts, sciences, digital technologies, and computational engineering, will be considered. Successful candidates will be active practitioners and/or scholars.
Requirements:
- PhD with substantial professional experience.
- At least 13 years of tertiary-level teaching experience and eight years or the equivalent in/programme management and the supervision and development of teaching staff.
- Evidence of research and/or professional practice.
- Substantial knowledge of emerging fields of design (e.g. UI/UX, robotics, design strategy and service design).
- Outstanding analytical and communication skills.
- Effective people management and supervisory skills.
- Ability to work effectively in teams and collaborate across levels.
- Proven ability in curriculum planning and delivery and budget planning.
- Experience in developing collaborative and interdisciplinary projects, and developing strong international academic, community and industry networks.
- Strong staff and student pastoral care skills.
- A positive attitude and output to research, and able to mentor emerging researchers.
