Hours: Ad-hoc weekly hours (please note, we cannot offer a Certificate of Sponsorship for this assignment)
Job Purpose:
The post holder is responsible for delivering a high-quality climbing programme at the Jubilee sports centre, ensuring customer experience is a priority.
To assist the Supervisor with planning, implementing, and reviewing new initiatives to increase participation, getting more of our students participating in an active lifestyle.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- To deliver a varied programme of courses/ classes and initiatives at the Jubilee sports centre.
- To ensure these are in line with accredited standards, codes of practice and legislative requirements.
- Assist the activities coordinator in reviewing the climbing offering to ensure it is meeting customers’ expectations and needs
- Signpost and advise customers on additional related services within the department.
- Deliver inductions and safety briefings to new customers.
- Work collegially with other staff within the service to ensure that Sport is delivering on its customer’s needs
- To maintain the safety of all users, carrying out regular equipment checks and responding to accidents and emergencies if required.
- To carry out any routine administrative and marketing tasks required to fulfil responsibilities including use of relevant IT systems.
- To act as a key holder, working independently to ensure site safety for specific facilities as and when required
- To support the vison of sport through meeting objectives and KPI’s set by the Activities coordinator/Activities and Programming Lead. Constantly being an ambassador for active and fitness lifestyles at the University of Southampton and listening to and escalating customer to improve quality standards.
Essential Skills:
- Experience of climbing and bouldering
- DBS check will be required, the cost of this will be covered by the University
- Able to effectively organise allocated work activities and assist in the effective organisation of standard and non-standard tasks and events
- Ability to work to deadlines
- Ability to maintain clear and accurate records
- Able to solve a range of problems by responding to varying circumstances
- Able to understand and resolve initial complaints and issues using standard procedures and understanding when a situation needs to be referred.
- Able to contribute to team efficiency through sharing information and constructively supporting others
- Able to seek and clarify detail. Able to explain procedures and provide assistance where necessary
- Proven written and verbal communication skills
- Enthusiastic, positive outlook and able to respond effectively in a pressurised environment to colleagues and customers
Desirable Skills:
- Financial administration/budget monitoring experience.
- Routing experience
- Experience of organising sports events and programmes
- Experience of dealing with difficult situations
- Successful supervisory experience.
- Experience of working without supervision
- Able to apply a comprehensive understanding of relevant University systems and procedures.
- Previous experience using a customer relation management system
