If you enjoy working in a technical field and want to support our Division operations in research, you are welcome to join the Pharmaceutical Biotechnology group at the Division of Pharmacognosy, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The position is limited to September 1, 2024 - February 28, 2025.

Your future tasks:

As a technical assistant with knowledge in microbiology, molecular cloning and genetic engineering you will take on specific technical tasks related to drug discovery from bacteria. Specifically, your tasks will comprise:

  • Taxonomic identification of bacteria from the Division's collection of environmental isolates.
  • Development and technical implementation of cultivation techniques for such bacteria.
  • Preparation of culture extracts and testing them for antimicrobial activities.
  • Genetic manipulation of bacteria aimed at revealing their secondary metabolite biosynthesis potential.

This is part of your personality:

  • You have commercial, technical and organisational knowledge or proof of the relevant professional requirements, e.g. school-leaving certificate/technical diploma.
  • You have experience with cultivation of Streptomyces bacteria and Escherichia coli.
  • You have experience in preparation of culture extracs and performing antimicrobial assays.
  • You have experience with molecular cloning and introduction of recombinant DNA into Streptomyces bacteria.
  • You have MS Office as well as solid general IT knowledge.
  • Good comand of English is a prerequisite.
