Our team of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy across a range of therapeutic areas.
We are looking for a Research Assistant to contribute to our research into the biochemical mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease, and remyelinating therapeutics for the treatment of multiple sclerosis.
You will be working under the guidance of Chief Investigator - Professor Anthony Don. This position will be based at the Charles Perkins Centre (D17) at the University of Sydney.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- work effectively with research fellows and postgraduate students to carry out research including animal husbandry and genotyping, mammalian cell culture, histology, biochemical and molecular biology techniques, mass spectrometry, and statistical analysis of large datasets.
- assist with the preparation and reporting requirements for animal and human research ethics protocols.
- ensure accurate record keeping and electronic database entry of all procedures and experimental data.
- prepare reports and contribute to writing research publications.
- contribute to general laboratory maintenance and organisation.
- ensure that the relevant Work, Health and Safety standards of the laboratory are met and are aligned to the University's WHS policy.
About you
- honours or masters degree in a relevant field, specifically Biomedical Science, Neuroscience, Bioinformatics, or Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is essential.
- experience and proficiency in basic laboratory and/or bioinformatic techniques, including but not limited to animal handling, molecular biology, cell culture, and/or statistical analysis of large datasets.Training will be provided where necessary
- proven ability to work collaboratively in research team
- experience with animal handling and neuroscience research is highly desirable
- a keen interest and enthusiasm for a biomedical research career is highly desirable.
