The Sydney Nursing School and Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) are jointly supporting a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor of Practice position in Biocontainment. The NSW Specialist Service for High Consequence Infectious Diseases is based at Westmead Hospital in Western Sydney Local Health District. It works with other parts of NSW Health to deliver a high quality integrated infectious disease service to facilitate pathogen isolation and identification, patient management and advice regarding public health consequences of the disease. The NSW Specialist Service for High Consequence Infectious Diseases incorporates the NSW Biocontainment Centre, a highly specialised facility, purpose-built to care for both adult and paediatric patients with high consequence infectious diseases.
The Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor of Practice (Biocontainment) represents a commitment by both partners to support the development of new models of biocontainment to prepare the workforce for such contexts of care and provide evidence of effectiveness of models of care in biocontainment and infection control. Working with the multidisciplinary clinical, education and research strategic frameworks of the University and WSLHD, the Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor will integrate evidence with clinical practice to improve care delivery in collaboration with WSLHD staff. This role will lead and develop strategic partnerships to embed new models of care within the community. The University of Sydney and the WSLHD are committed to enhancing the capacity of the health system to meet the needs of one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) local government areas in New South Wales.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- develop and support models of biocontainment through education, research capacity building and collaborative clinical research and service delivery initiatives at WSLHD
- seek opportunities to educate and professionally develop all health professionals about biocontainment
- lead the development and offering of innovative biocontainment programs
- in partnership with WSLHD and the University, develop a sustainable program of clinical research that contributes to improving biocontainment outcomes and models of care
- build and maintain collaborative relationships with industry, government, and community organisations, participating in public forums, and promoting strategic initiatives and partnerships
About you
We would expect that you could demonstrate extensive experience in the following areas of expertise:
- current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a registered nurse
- a national or international reputation for excellence and expertise in infection prevention and control and infectious diseases specialties
- well-established and sustained success in innovation and/or leadership within in the infection prevention and control and infectious diseases
- professional qualifications in a relevant field
- demonstrated success in integrating and applying complex theoretical concepts to advance professional practice
- a wide network of established relationships with key industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the discipline, School/ Faculty and University and Western Sydney Local Health District
- experience in people leadership and management, including demonstrated excellence in supervising and/or mentoring others to success
- demonstrated success in effectively engaging with a diverse and broad range of stakeholders
- demonstrated capacity to be an engaging, effective and impactful educator
- an interest in and burgeoning understanding of the key strategic issues in the higher education sector
