• Base Salary Level A, $109,301 - $116,679 p.a. + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Faculty of Science is welcoming applications for a Research Focused Academic (Bioinformatics- Wildlife) to join the team to apply and develop their expertise in conducting research to further the Centre of Excellence's research agenda. They will conduct research and/or scholarly activities under the limited supervision of senior academic staff as part of the CIPPS.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• act in the Bioinformatics position within the Centre for Innovations in Peptide and Protein Science (CIPPS). The role is located within the Australasian Wildlife Genomics Group but supports CIPPS scientists in their bioinformatic needs and undertakes research activities that align with the CIPPS research strategy
• assemble & annotate non-model species genomes using a range of sequencing technologies, including PacBio HiFi, ONT and transcriptomes
• manually annotate gene families of importance to the work undertaken within CIPPS
• manage the bioinformatic workflows and create documentation to assist others in using the workflows.

About you

• a postgraduate degree (or about to be awarded) in genomics/genetics or bioinformatics
• experience with non-model genome assembly, annotation and gene characterisation
• ability to multi-task and willingness to work as part of a multi-disciplinary national research team focused on excellence and innovation
• experience managing and manipulating large datasets.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.
