University of Helsinki IT Center is looking for two IT trainees for fixed-term positions in our IT for Science team.
Trainee tasks are both to support researchers and research groups in the use of the university's scientific computing infrastructure (HPC) and to participate in infrastructure development work as part of the group. We offer you the opportunity to use your skills to solve complex scientific computing challenges and learn new alongside studies. We also offer you the opportunity to explore and learn more extensively about the university's research IT infrastructure maintained and developed by the IT for Science team.
Trainee will participate in the maintenance of the container platform and related services, support researchers in the adoption of AI technologies, and act as a link between research teams and the IT for Science team. In addition, integration with students and research groups is key to effectively mapping the needs of scientific computing infrastructure. The position is located in Kumpula campus, but in practice, the task includes supporting all HPC users of the university, which means that the task may also require travel to other campuses to assist researchers.
The task includes:
- Server maintenance (RHEL/AlmaLinux)
- Container platform maintenance (OKD/Open Shift/Kubernetes)
- Solving scientific computing challenges to support research teams
- Our working language is mainly English, but helpful Finnish language skills are considered an advantage
What we expect:
- Linux expertise
- Interest in container technologies such as Docker, Podman and Singularity(HPC)
- Tuntemusta versionhallinnasta (Git, GitLab, GitHub)
- Programming and scripting skills: Python, Bash
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
We hope you have some knowledge in some of the following:
- Using GPUs in software (PyTorch, Tensorflow, etc.)
- GPU programming (CUDA, OpenCl)
- AI technologies and solutions
- Ansible
- Virtualsointi (VMware,KVM)
- Operation of networks
- Use of CSC's services
The intern's working hours vary between semesters (50% working hours) and summer holiday periods (100% working hours). The salary of the position is EUR 2500 per month (proportional to working hours during semesters). We hope that you can start working in the beginning of September 2024, or as agreed.
