We are looking for a highly motivated and hardworking PraeDoc (PhD, 30h/week) at the Institute of Biological Chemistry of the University of Vienna, a subunit of the Faculty of Chemistry. Your position will be with the AG Muttenthaler, which focuses on bioactive peptides, their synthesis and structure-activity relationship studies.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

• You are involved in research projects and scientific studies in the area of Chemical Biology.
• We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
• You work on your dissertation and its completion.
• You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
• You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.

Your personal sphere of influence:

The institute provides an excellent environment for research at the interface of synthetic organic chemistry, molecular biology, biophysics and biomedicine. We combine chemical approaches such as the synthetic of modified amino acids with solid phase peptide syntheses (SPPS) and biotechnological methods to address scientific challenges in the areas of protein biochemistry, neuropeptide research, biomaterials and medicine. You continuously strive for scientific and personal development and look for a place to carry out internationally.

As part of our diverse team, you will be developing synthetic methodology around photocontrollable neuropeptide probes and characterize their biophysical properties and application scope as new tools for neuroscience.

You have previous knowledge in the area of organic chemistry, peptide chemistry, medicinal chemistry, GPCR pharmacology and analytical methods such as HPLC, MS, CD and NMR.

Moreover, you have had opportunities to teach and have a working knowledge of university procedures and structures. Ideally, you have been involved in scientific work and have gathered some international experience.

This is part of your personality:

• Completed Master's degree or Diploma, in the field of Chemistry, Chemical Biology or Pharmacology
• Basic experience in academic writing and with research methods.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English (C1 Level), furthermore good command of German, if necessary
• Didactic competences/experience with e-learning
• Strong expertise in synthetic strategies and analytical methods to characterize peptides
• You should be a team player with high social skills

What we offer:

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.
