The Department of History is seeking to hire an Assistant Professor of Teaching. The appointee will be primarily dedicated to the teaching and administration of the Core Curriculum course China in World History (CCC8014). It is a survey of world history with a focus on the role that China played historically from antiquity to the present day, and is a required course for all undergraduates at the university. Candidates with research specialty and teaching experience in the world history are encouraged to apply. Candidates with specialized knowledge in Chinese history (of any period) will have distinct advantage. The appointee may also teach courses in his/her area of specialty and advise capstone projects after fulfilling his/her duties for the Core Curriculum course.

General Requirements

Applicants should have a PhD degree in a relevant discipline by the time of the appointment in August 2024, with evidence of excellence in classroom teaching, course development and curricular innovation in a university setting. Evidence of contributions to the scholarship of teaching, in the form of teaching-related publications and conference presentations, will be viewed positively. The teaching load will be 24 credit hours per year, most or all of which will be dedicated to the instruction of the Core Curriculum course China in World History.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract for a period of normally up to three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment.
