Join the Australian National University (ANU) as Senior Manager, Defence Industry Security Coordination, where you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the Universities research integrity whilst fostering strategic partnerships in the defence sector.
About the Role
As the Senior Manager, Defence Industry Security Coordination, you will act as the University’s Security Officer, managing the University’s clearances and Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) membership. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the defence industry, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to security and compliance. The role will work closely with professional and academic staff to aid them in protecting the important work they do at the University and with collaborators.
Key Duties:
- Develop and implement comprehensive security strategies to protect sensitive information and technologies.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to assess security risks and implement mitigation measures.
- Liaise with government agencies and industry partners and monitor trends and regulatory changes to ensure compliance with evolving security standards and to stay informed of changes in regulations and best practices.
- Provide guidance and training to university stakeholders on security best practices, promoting a proactive approach to risk management and compliance.
- Managing security clearances for the University, including setting up processes and managing sponsorship of new security clearances at a baseline level.
- Oversee the management and administration of the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) membership.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on DISP and security compliance.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for security-related inquiries and audits from regulatory bodies.
- Prepare and submit required documentation and reports related to DISP and security compliance.
About You
Our ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate:
- In-depth knowledge of the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) and Defence Export Control regulations;
- Proven track record of successfully managing security programs and compliance initiatives, including a strong understanding of Security Officer requirements under the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF);
- Proven ability to build and manage enduring relationships with key stakeholders to achieve operational and policy outcomes;
- Strong leadership and team management skills;
- Outstanding time management and organisational skills, while remaining resilient and adaptable to changing plans and priorities;
- A can-do attitude and an ability to inspire and maintain a positive attitude towards complex problems, while using sound judgment and understanding the impacts and risks to strategic outcomes;
- Strong communication and public speaking skills and attention to detail;
- The ability to interpret and comply with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks; and
- Extensive experience in the Defence industry, with a focus on security and compliance.
This is a security-vetted position. Candidates must be Australian Citizens and already have, or be eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 (or above) security clearance.
