The role: This academic role sits within the StoryFutures strategic business unit delivering the UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in AI for Digital Media Inclusion. You will be part of a creative, inclusive and dynamic environment, leading the CDT’s training and research activities in inclusive design.
About the UKRI AI CDT: The UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training in AI for Digital Media Inclusion is led by the University of Surrey in partnership with StoryFutures. The CDT combines Royal Holloway’s track record of innovation in next-generation digital media with Surrey University’s world-leading expertise in people-centred AI. It will establish a unique creative industry hub for high-quality training in responsible AI, inclusive design and creative skills, training a new generation of more than 80 industry-ready PhDs to lead the transformation to responsible AI-enabled inclusive media.

What you will be doing (see job description for full details):
- Providing the CDT with expertise and leadership in inclusive design
- Leading, developing and delivering inclusive design training and practice throughout the CDT activities
- Supervising PhD students in the area of inclusive design
- Providing inclusive design input to industry challenge projects
- Supporting PhD researchers and research challenges in evaluation of AI-enabled inclusive media with user-groups
- Maintaining and developing your own academic profile through talks and published articles
You should apply if you:
- Have significant experience of inclusive design research and practice
- Are passionate about applying AI to improve digital media inclusion
- Hold a PhD in a relevant discipline
- Enjoy working in a fast-moving, agile environment, both independently and in teams
This is a 50%, fixed term role for 8 years and available from September 2024. This post is based in Egham, Surrey, but with the expectation of significant working time at the University of Surrey and potentially other StoryFutures locations.
