Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

AUT's Eke Tangaroa programme offers exciting opportunities for recent Māori or Pacific graduates to embark on an academic career as a lecturer. Usually, applicants will hold a completed PhD/doctorate (or be close to completion); with the exception of the Law School where a completed LLM is also accepted. We provide a supportive environment for Māori and Pacific early career academics to teach, research and engage in academic citizenship. We want AUT to be a place where Māori and Pacific are involved in all of the university's activities including in leadership roles.

We have a range of positions through Eke Tangaroa and are seeking interest within any of the following discipline areas:

Built Environment Engineering

• any relevant Engineering disciplines: such as Civil, Construction, Environmental, Infrastructure, Logistics, Design Management, Regenerative Environmental Infrastructure, Digital Design/Construction/Urbanism, Architecture or related sub-disciplines

Engineering

• any relevant disciplines such as Electrical and Electronic, Software, Mechatronics, Mechanical

Business disciplines

• one or ideally more of the following areas: Māori and Indigenous Business, Human Resource Management, Employment Relations, Organisational Behaviour, Management, Strategy, Entrepreneurship, International Business, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Accounting, Business Law

Law * (please see qualification criteria exception below)

• generally any of Commercial / Corporate / Business Law, Private Law, Public Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, International Law and any other area of specific interest such as Remedies, Wills and Estates, Welfare Law, Elder Law, Animal Law, Charity Law

Education

• any discipline relevant to initial teacher education in Early Childhood, Primary or Secondary

Clinical Sciences health professional

• any of Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Psychotherapy, Counselling, Oral Health, Paramedicine

Pacific Health

• any of the following in a Pacific context: Public Health, Child & Youth Health, Pacific Research, Health & Wellbeing, Sustainability, Climate Action

Sport, Exercise and Health

• any relevant disciplines: such as Sport & Exercise Science, Health & Physical Education, Sport Leadership & Management, Nutrition & Physical Activity, Sport Performance Science, Outdoor Learning, Youth Development & Coaching

Food Science

• any of Food Science, Food Microbiology or Food Chemistry

About you | He kōrero mōu

We welcome applications from suitably qualified applicants of Māori or Indigenous Pacific ancestry. You will also have:

• A PhD or other doctoral degree (and be within 6 years of graduating) - or be close to completion (under examination, or nearing submission for examination at the time of application). * For Law applicants only, a completed Masters degree in Law is acceptable.
• Research and teaching interests aligning with any of the discipline areas listed above.
• And you will not have held a full-time permanent academic position in a university before.

Further Information:

• Start Dates: We are flexible and would expect all kaihoe have ideally begun their roles by 3 February 2025.
• Interviews: We expect interviews to take place in September 2024
• Salary range: Lecturer: $89,007 - $105,929 (specific step within ranges commensurate with relevant skills and experience).
