The Organic Synthesis Group of Prof. Maulide in the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Vienna is currently seeking a PhD student with research experience in organic chemistry and natural product synthesis for 4 years temporary employment relationship.
Our Team currently consists of 13 post docs, 11 prae docs, 2 senior scientists and administrative colleagues.
Your future tasks:
You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:
- Studies on the stereoselective preparation of organic compounds. Special emphasis on the development of new synthetic methodologies, with a focus on stereoselective synthesis (particularly through chirality transfer processes), methods for conjugate addition and heteroatom variants of the Mannich reaction.
- We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
- You work on your dissertation and its completion.
- You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
- You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
This is part of your personality:
- Completed Master's degree or Diploma, in the field in Chemistry with profound knowledge and practical experience in the field of Organic Synthesis.
- Ability to work independendly in the field of organic synthesis.
- Experience with the chemistry of organophosphorus compounds and the sythesis of peptides and silyl ketene acetals is required. Additionally, extensive experience with (Lewis)-acid-catalyzed organic transformations is advantageous.
- Basic experience in academic writing and with research methods
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- IT user skills: e.g. Microsoft Office, ChemOffice
- You should be a team player with high social skills

Fair salary: The basic salary of EUR 3578,80 (on a full-time basis) increases if we can credit professional experience. The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.
