Maynooth University and Kildare County Council Library and Arts Services seek applications for a Writer-in-Residence.
Applications are invited by writers of established reputation for one positions co-funded by Maynooth University and Kildare Arts and Library Services, which celebrates a decade-long partnership with this residency. The residency will run from 1 October 2024 – 30 September 2025, with duties expected to average approximately six hours per week contact time with students and the wider public. The role is designed to provide students and the broader community with the opportunity to engage with writers of distinction, as well as providing the writers with time to advance their current project(s). Recent Writers-in-Residence at Maynooth University include Fíona Scarlett, Paul Lynch, Christodoulos Makris, Eoin McNamee, Annemarie Ní Churreáin, Sue Rainsford, Susan Tomaselli, and Joanna Walsh. The positions are open to writers working in poetry and/or creative prose.

To make an application, writers should submit a curriculum vitae and a letter of application (no more than two pages), which should include:
- a brief outline of the writer’s achievements to date;
- an outline of what the writer would bring to the post in the University and Library community, noting ideas for engagement;
- teaching / facilitation experience;
- a description of what work the residency would be used to achieve.
Note**:** Letters of reference should not be included at this point and will be discounted.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide examples of work to a maximum of twenty pages; a one-page proposal for a 12-week 2nd-year undergraduate Creative Writing module (covering a range of genres) and a one-page proposal for community workshops that could take place as either a series or standalone workshops of approximately 2 hours each.
Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified above. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system.
