About the Role

The University of Melbourne seeks a talented Dean to lead the Faculty of Engineering & Information Technology (FEIT) into its next phase. This is a remarkable leadership opportunity and a chance to spearhead a bold 10-year strategy that will redefine engineering and IT education and research, guide a world-class faculty, forge partnerships with distinguished scholars, and leave your mark on the global stage.

The Dean will also play a major role in senior University leadership through their membership of the University Executive and contributions to cross-university collaboration.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading with Vision: Develop a bold 10-year strategy for engineering and IT education and research. Championing Excellence: Cultivate a culture of high-quality teaching, research, and inclusivity within the Faculty. Forging Strategic Partnerships: Build strong relationships with scholars, industry leaders, and external partners to elevate FEIT's global impact. Stewardship of the Faculty: Ensure financial sustainability, effective governance and compliance, while fostering a vibrant and collaborative community.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone capable of providing imaginative and inspiring academic leadership at the University of Melbourne, with a global outlook on the future of engineering and IT. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional relationship-building skills to connect with a wide range of stakeholders and foster a thriving academic environment through excellent people management.

You will also have:

  • An outstanding record of academic achievement at full professorial level.
  • An ability to lead, motivate and inspire in a complex organisation through clear vision, example, communication and personal influence
  • Capacity in the development and implementation of financial and strategic plans
  • Innovative organisational planning and implementation skills, which demonstrate creativity and ability to achieve results
  • An understanding of the higher education sector in Australia and internationally, including a sound knowledge of trends in management of contemporary universities in a rapidly changing environment

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
