Introduce:

Founded in 1998, the School of Arts at Chongqing University leverages the university’s “Double First-Class” status, excellent facilities, and beautiful campus to nurture high-level creative talents in fine arts and design, as well as top-tier performers in music and dance. The school has over 80 professional faculty members, nearly 50% of whom hold senior titles, including renowned domestic professors and overseas returnees.

The School of Arts offers master’s degree programs in Arts and Design and professional master’s degree programs in Design, Fine Arts, and Calligraphy. Undergraduate programs include Environmental Design, Product Design, Visual Communication Design, Chinese Painting, Oil Painting, Music Performance, and Dance Performance. Among these, the Dance Performance and Painting programs are recognized as national first-class undergraduate programs, while the Product Design and Environmental Design programs are top-tier undergraduate programs in Chongqing.

Talent Cultivation:

In line with the national “Three Comprehensive Education” policy and new liberal arts development requirements, the School of Arts continuously optimizes its curriculum, expands professional directions, and enhances talent training levels to foster innovative talents. Students and faculty frequently participate in and receive accolades at various exhibitions and performances. Achievements include winning international and national awards such as the German iF Design Award, Red Dot Design Award, and National Art Exhibition awards. The School has also co-hosted influential exhibitions with the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the Chongqing Artists Association. Dance works have been finalists in prestigious competitions like the “Lotus Award” and the National School Student Art Exhibition. The original dance piece “Shou Long Ren (Guardians of the Dragon)” was featured in the opening performance of the 2024 CCTV Spring Festival Gala. Additionally, multiple music works have been finalists in the Golden Bell Award and the National Young Singers Competition.

Program Descriptions:

  1. Design Programs:
    1. Environmental Design: Recognized as a top-tier undergraduate program in Chongqing, this program is ranked A-class by Shanghai Ranking. It emphasizes local cultural characteristics, urban and rural spatial design, and aims to cultivate leaders in environmental design with a solid knowledge base, strong innovative abilities, and balanced theoretical and practical skills.
    2. Product Design: Also a top-tier undergraduate program in Chongqing, this program is ranked A-class by Shanghai Ranking. It trains professionals who can integrate science, technology, production processes, materials, aesthetics, culture, and economic principles to develop new products.
    3. Visual Communication Design: Ranked A-class by Shanghai Ranking, this program focuses on the intersection of design, art, digital design, and art communication. It cultivates innovative, versatile modern design talents with a strong foundation, broad vision, high quality, and innovation skills.
  2. Painting Program:
    1. A national first-class undergraduate program with specializations in Chinese Painting and Oil Painting. It aims to produce well-rounded art professionals with a deep understanding of traditional Chinese culture, modern art concepts, comprehensive theoretical knowledge, and practical painting skills, capable of art creation, teaching, and research.
  3. Dance Performance Program:
    1. Recognized as a national first-class undergraduate program and ranked A-class by Shanghai Ranking. It trains high-quality professionals with knowledge and skills in Chinese classical dance and ethnic dance, capable of dance performance, teaching, choreography, cultural promotion, and research in professional art troupes, universities, cultural centers, and other institutions.
  4. Music Performance Program (Vocal):
    1. This program develops high-quality professionals with a solid theoretical foundation in music, strong performance abilities, and a broad humanistic outlook. Graduates are prepared for careers in professional art troupes, research institutions, universities, cultural organizations, and social art institutions, engaging in performance, teaching, research, and organizing various music activities.
