Introduce:

The Civil Engineering discipline at Chongqing University was first established in 1935. In 1952, during a nationwide reorganization of universities, the Department of Civil Engineering was established at Chongqing Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture. It was renamed the Department of Civil Engineering at Chongqing Institute of Architecture and Engineering in 1954. In 2000, the new Chongqing University was founded, and the School of Civil Engineering was formed. Upholding the motto of “Unity, Progress, Pragmatism, Innovation” and the educational philosophy of “Solid Foundation, Broad Scope, Strong Abilities, High Quality,” the School has achieved remarkable accomplishments over more than 70 years, earning a high reputation and academic status both domestically and internationally. The Civil Engineering discipline, led by Academicians Zhou Xuhong, Yang Yongbin, Tamura Yukio, and Liu Hanlong, was selected for the World-Class Discipline Construction list in 2017 and 2022. In the fifth round of discipline evaluations, the Civil Engineering discipline made a significant leap, placing among the top ranks.

The School currently has 272 staff members, including 214 full-time faculty members, with 85 professors (researchers), 80 associate professors, and 86 doctoral supervisors. Among the faculty, there are 43 nationally recognized talents, including academicians, and 66 provincial and ministerial-level talents, including those selected for the “Chongqing Talent” program. The school boasts a National Natural Science Foundation innovation research group, a Huang Danian-style teacher team at the national level, a Ministry of Education Changjiang Scholar innovation team, a key field innovation team under the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Innovation Talent Promotion Plan, a Chongqing Municipal innovation team, and two Chongqing Municipal teaching teams.

The School offers five undergraduate programs: Civil Engineering, Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering, Urban Underground Space Engineering, Surveying and Mapping Engineering, and Intelligent Construction. The Civil Engineering, Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering, and Urban Underground Space Engineering programs are all part of the national first-class program construction projects. The School has a post-doctoral mobile station in Civil Engineering, first-level discipline doctoral and master's programs in Civil Engineering, and doctoral and master's programs in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering (Energy and Environmental, Advanced Manufacturing) and Civil and Hydraulic Engineering (Architecture and Civil Engineering).

The School consists of eight teaching departments and groups (Structural Engineering, Geotechnical and Underground Engineering, Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering, Road and Bridge Engineering, Construction Engineering, Surveying and Mapping Engineering, Building Mechanics, and Building Graphics) and one experimental center. The Civil Engineering Experimental Center comprises 11 laboratories, including vibration table, wind tunnel, HVAC, gas, geotechnical (geology), structural, virtual simulation information, road and bridge, surveying and mapping, mechanics, and teaching models. It is equipped with advanced testing instruments and equipment, such as a large-scale vibration table, DC wind tunnel, artificial environment climate chamber, chiller performance test system, infrared thermal imaging camera, and INSTRON rock triaxial and material performance electro-hydraulic servo test system.

The School houses several national and provincial platforms, including the National-Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Environmental Geological Hazard Prevention in Reservoir Areas, the International Cooperation Base for High-Performance Wind Power Facilities and Their Efficient Operation, the Low-Carbon Green Building and Habitat Environment Quality Assurance Discipline Innovation Base, the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Mountain Town Construction and New Technology, the Collaborative Innovation Center for Steel Structure and Building Industrialization, the Chongqing Collaborative Innovation Center for Mountain Town Construction Safety and Disaster Prevention, the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Earthquake Resistance and Disaster Prevention for Engineering Structures, and the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Civil Engineering.

Over the past five years, the School of Civil Engineering has completed over 300 national provincial, and ministerial research projects, including key R&D plans and National Natural Science Foundation projects. These efforts have resulted in a series of significant research achievements, including several national science and technology progress awards, such as the First Prize for National Scientific and Technological Progress.
