Introduce:
The College of Physical Education at Chongqing University is a secondary school dedicated to offering diverse, high-quality public physical education, high-level competitive sports, and specialized sports programs and disciplines. The College aims to develop a high-level faculty team with a reasonable structure, establishing itself as a nationally renowned, distinctive, and research-oriented institution in line with the university’s “Double First-Class” status.
The College primarily focuses on the discipline of physical education, which includes Sports Education and Training, Sports Humanities and Sociology, Ethnic Traditional Sports, and Sports Science.
- History:
- 1936: Established the Department of Physical Education, beginning the training of sports professionals.
- 1951: Merged with the Department of Physical Education at Southwest Normal school.
- 1979: Resumed undergraduate admissions.
- 2001: Partnered with the Chongqing Sports Bureau, obtaining authorization for a first-level discipline master's program in Sports Studies.
- 2002: Started enrolling graduate students in the master’s program in Sports Education and Training.
- 2007: Began offering in-service master’s programs for university teachers.
- 2010: Launched the master's program in Physical Education.
- 2019: The Sports Education program was designated as a Chongqing First-Class Program.
- 2022: The Sports Education program was designated as a National First-Class Program.
- 2025: The Sports Training program will begin admissions.
- Current Structure and Resources:
- The College currently offers an undergraduate program in Sports Education (with a Sports Training program starting in 2025) and a master’s program in Sports Studies.
- It maintains high-level sports teams in basketball, soccer, and tennis.
- The faculty includes over ten international and national referees.
- The faculty team boasts world champions in sports such as badminton and aerobics.
- The College has high-standard sports venues and facilities.
- Research Achievements:
- In the past five years, the faculty has published over 30 high-quality papers in leading national and international journals such as Sports Science and Journal of Sports.
- The faculty has led two projects funded by the National Social Science Fund and over ten projects supported by the Ministry of Education and provincial and ministerial-level projects.
