Introduce:

The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Chongqing University traces its origins to the Department of Chemistry established in 1932 and the Department of Chemical Engineering founded in 1936. Over the past 90 years, the school has evolved into a research-oriented institution that harmoniously integrates chemistry and chemical engineering disciplines, with a focus on “Green Chemistry” and “Intelligent Chemical Engineering.” The school has nurtured numerous renowned scholars and outstanding talents, including Zhang Hongyuan, Ding Xuhuai, Shi Jun, and Fu Ying.

The school currently has 137 faculty members, including 57 with senior professional titles and 41 with associate senior titles. Among them are 4 national high-level talents, 12 national young talents, and 32 provincial and ministerial talents.

In the past five years, the school has published over 1,500 SCI indexed papers, with nearly 100 high-level academic papers in prestigious journals such as Nature, Nature Chemistry, Nature Catalysis, Nature Materials, Nature Energy, JACS, Angew, and AIChE J. In the past three years, the school has undertaken numerous research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chongqing Science and Technology Commission, and key enterprises, with total research funding amounting to approximately 120 million yuan. The school has also received over 10 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards.

The school has two key first-level disciplines in Chongqing: Chemical Engineering and Technology, and Chemistry. The discipline of Chemical Engineering and Technology ranks 28th in the Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, and the discipline of Chemistry is in the top 0.593‰ globally in ESI disciplinary influence. The school offers three undergraduate programs: Chemistry (including Green Intelligent Chemistry and Material Chemistry), Chemical Engineering and Technology (including Chemical Engineering and Pharmaceutical Engineering), and Applied Chemistry. It also has doctoral and master’s degree programs in the first-level disciplines of Chemical Engineering and Technology and Chemistry, as well as two post-doctoral research stations in these disciplines, forming a comprehensive and multi-level talent cultivation system from undergraduate to doctoral and post-doctoral levels.

The school houses three national-level platforms: The National Key Laboratory for Specialized Chemical Power Source (co-built), the National Energy Storage Technology Integration and Innovation Platform (co-built), and the National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Chemical Process Intensification and Reaction. It also has provincial and ministerial-level platforms such as the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Chemical Theory and Mechanism, and the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Clean Energy and Green Chemical Processes.

The school has 12,500 square meters of research and teaching laboratories (including the Frontier Institute) with a total of 1,034 pieces of equipment. In 2021, leveraging the municipal-level Basic Chemistry Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, the school established a university-level Large Instrument and Equipment Public Service Center. This center can conduct analyses of the physical and chemical properties of substances such as composition, structure, and microscopic morphology, providing strong support for the university’s research, teaching, and disciplinary development. The platform includes over 40 large instruments, including a field emission scanning electron microscope, nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, X-ray diffractometer, inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometer, gas chromatography-mass spectrometer, Thermogravimetric-differential thermal analyzer, fully automatic specific surface and pore size analyzer, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy system, gas chromatograph, high-performance liquid chromatograph, and atomic absorption spectrometer.
