Introduce:
The College of Optoelectronic Engineering at Chongqing University originated from the Institute of Optoelectronic Precision Machinery, approved by the former State Education Commission in 1979. After more than 40 years of dedicated effort by faculty and students, the school now offers doctoral degrees in Instrument Science and Technology and Optical Engineering, as well as in Electronic Information Engineering, along with corresponding master’s degrees (both academic and professional). It has two post-doctoral research stations in Instrument Science and Technology and Optical Engineering. The college is home to the national key discipline of Precision Instruments and Machinery, forming a comprehensive talent cultivation and scientific research system, and has become a leading base for talent cultivation and scientific research in the field of optoelectronic engineering in China.
The college offers four undergraduate programs: Measurement and Control Technology and Instruments, Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, and Intelligent Perception. Measurement and Control Technology and Instruments is a nationally recognized specialty and has completed China Engineering Education Accreditation (Washington Accord). Measurement and Control Technology and Instruments, Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, and Electronic Science and Technology are first-class national programs. The college currently has over 1,000 undergraduates, 500 master’s students, 150 doctoral students, and more than 20 post-doctoral researchers. It has received three National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation awards and one nomination, as well as over ten National Instrument and Meter Scholarships and Wang Daheng Optical Awards. The employment and further education rates of students have consistently ranked among the highest in the university.
The college has more than 130 full-time faculty members, including over 40 with senior titles. It boasts a large number of high-level talents, including recipients of the National Thousand Talents Plan, National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Changjiang Scholars, members of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, 973 Program Chief Scientists, and Outstanding Young Scholars from overseas. This has created a well-structured and influential faculty team in China.
The college emphasizes collaborative development through the “one College, four Bases” approach. It independently established the Chongqing Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Measurement and Control Instruments and Optoelectronic Technology, serving four majors. The “four Bases" include the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Technology and Systems, focusing on fundamental research; the Ministry of Education Engineering Center for Industrial Nondestructive Testing, emphasizing national engineering projects; the National Defense Key Discipline Laboratory for New Micro-Nano Devices and Systems Technology, highlighting national support; and the National International Joint Research Center for Micro-Nano Systems and New Materials Technology, strengthening domestic and international connections.
Over the past 40 years, the College of Optoelectronic Engineering has upheld the “Opto-Mech Spirit” inherited from its predecessors, striving for excellence. It has achieved seven national awards and dozens of provincial and ministerial awards. Some research outcomes have served major national projects and been integrated into significant equipment, while others have successfully undergone commercialization, resulting in the incubation of several industrial companies. Together, these achievements support the college’s position at the forefront of national discipline construction. Today, the College of Optoelectronic Engineering is leveraging interdisciplinary integration, gathering diverse talents, and uniting efforts to stride confidently into a new era of excellence.
