Faculty Position in Drawing and Painting at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer Level

The School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) at NTU, Singapore, invites qualified academics with strong creative practise to apply for a faculty position in as Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (Educator track).

This is a joint position between the School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) and the School of Electronic Electrical Engineering (EEE). ADM is part of the College of Humanities, Arts And Social Sciences (COHASS) and EEE is part of the College of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. This position is housed at ADM, and the faculty member will be expected to deliver courses at ADM as well as ADM supported courses in the IEM program. The B.Eng in Information Engineering and Media (IEM) is a successful interdisciplinary program hosted by EEE and jointly offered with ADM and WKW School of Communication and Information.

The candidate serves interdisciplinary education in the field of visual art practice and concepts, covering courses in drawing, design concept, color theory and applications. We encourage candidates who possess solid theoretical knowledge and practical skills in drawing, painting, color theory and design concepts to apply. The faculty member will be expected to deliver foundation and visual culture courses in ADM, as well as ADM supported core IEM courses in EEE. The successful candidate prepares ADM and IEM students with strong fundamentals in visual art, with a contemporary world view of visual art concepts and developments.

This is an educator-track position, with service and research components. Applicants must be comfortable with the evolving landscape of contemporary media and design, and have the confidence to maintain proficiency, both academically and technically, to contribute to the vibrant research-driven culture that is embraced at NTU. You will help to design the on-going development of innovative curriculum to ensure relevance to contemporary industry and society. The selected candidate may also be required to coordinate ADM supported IEM course offerings. Faculty assessment will be in accordance with ADM teaching research and service guidelines. Contribution ratios to ADM and EEE will be determined upon appointment.

As a candidate you will demonstrate:

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating high impact and artistic quality and vibrant studio practice.
  • An understanding of and engagement with historical and contemporary issues in visual art and art pedagogies.
  • The ability to teach a range of undergraduate and postgraduate classes, and an interest in curriculum development and leadership. Additional qualifications include:
    • A keen interest in the expansion of drawing and design practise beyond traditional fields.
    • Proven ability to teach and supervise student-led research and creative projects from idea generation through to final execution and presentation.
    • A keen interest in high-quality scholarly research, especially for art pedagogy and innovation.
  • In keeping with the school’s interdisciplinary ethos, we will also welcome candidates with additional experience in other fields.

• Excellent academic records and research potential.

Terms and Conditions: 
• The Fellowship will be tenable for a period of 3 years.  
• In addition to an attractive remuneration, the successful candidate will be awarded a research grant of S$180,000 for research consumables and research related expenditure.
