The position is assigned to the working group Didactics of geography and economic education at the Institute for Geography and Regional Research.

The tasks of the successful candidate will also be coordinated with the Centre for Teacher Education. Its aim is to connect, to strengthen and to further develop the various initiatives for quality enhancement of teacher education at the University of Vienna and to establish a central contact point for students. 

Your personal sphere of influence:

As a university assistant pre-doc you will complement the research team focusing on didactics of geography and economic education. You will represent this research area in teaching and research and you will be able to set your own focus regarding your planned dissertation. 

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.

Your future tasks:

The successful candidate will have the possibility to write his/her dissertation in the field of Didactics of geography and economics. 

His/her field of responsibilities include especially:

• Participation in research, teaching and administration at the Department of Geography and Regional Research in the working group Didactics of geography and economic education and at the Center for Teacher Education
• Possibility to write dissertation. We expect you to complete your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
• Contribution to research projects
• Contribution to publications
• Contribution to organization of conferences, meetings, symposiums
• Contribution to project application and (external) fundraising
• Duty to hold classes due to extent regulations of wage agreement teaching assignments (supportive as well as independent) according to the extent regulated by the collective agreement
• Support of students
• Participation in evaluation activities and in quality assurance
• Participation in administration of the department

This is part of your personality:

• Completed master's or diploma degree in teacher education for Geography and Economics
• Research emphasis on teaching Geography or Geography and Economics as school subject
• Diploma or master thesis with a focus on Didactics of Geography 
• High command of subject-specific didactic theories, concepts and methods
• Good knowledge of current developments and discussions in the research field
• Good knowledge of the methods of empirical social research
• Fluent in German and English, spoken and written
• Ability to work in teams
• Commitment to work with students
