Do you enjoy working with young people, are you curious, and do you want to pass on your knowledge?  As a Senior Lecturer, you play a crucial role in educating students. In addition to providing a solid academic education, we also place a special emphasis on the personal development of students. We support students in developing curiosity and critical thinking, thereby creating a solid foundation for the professional challenges of the next generation.

Your workplace:

As a Senior Lecturer, you will be employed in the field of Japanese Studies.
The focus of your teaching duties will be on teaching the academic working techniques required to deal with social and cultural aspects of Japanese studies.

The employment level of 20 hours/week includes an average teaching obligation of 7 semester hours per week of academic teaching. The principal willingness to increase the level of employment is welcomed, provided that the university's needs are met.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in scientific teaching, research & administration, which means:

  • You independently lead courses in the Bachelor's and Master's program.
  • The focus of your teaching duties is on basic academic training in accordance with the current curriculum of the Bachelor's degree program, e.g. M5, M13, M19, M20 and Intercultural Learning M12.
  • You make an active contribution to the (further) development of course and examination formats.
  • The ongoing reception of the current state of science as well as further didactic training and the assumption of research tasks during course-free periods are expected.
  • In addition, the assumption of administrative activities, especially in the administration of teaching, is part of the job profile.

  • PhD in Japanese Studies with a focus on social or cultural studies
  • Excellent language skills in German (language of instruction), Japanese and English
  • Several years of independent teaching experience at a post-secondary educational institution
  • Enthusiasm for passing on knowledge and for university teaching
