Research Funding Development (RFD) – Research and Innovation Services (RIS)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and proactive Research Funding Officer to join the Research Funding Development team in Research and Innovation Services at the University of Southampton.

The University of Southampton is a research-intensive University, with an annual research income of more than £120 million. The Research Funding Development team, based in Research and Innovation Services (RIS), works with the academic community to provide comprehensive research funding advice, and bid support that helps underpin this success.

The role

We’re looking for Research Funding Officer join our team in supporting researchers to develop high quality bids. You will work closely with academic colleagues, especially Early Career Researchers and those new to applying for external research funding, providing advice and guidance on the UK research funding landscape, funding schemes and application processes. You will also contribute to the development programme of our researchers and lead and facilitate workshops to develop interdisciplinary areas of research.

About you

You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work confidently with a wide range of people, including academic and professional services colleagues. You will act as a key contact for a portfolio of Schools and apply your excellent writing skills and attention to detail to review bids against funder guidance.

Astute and self-motivated, you will use your strong organisational skills to independently manage a varied workload, often working towards deadlines. As a strong team player, you will share intelligence on funding opportunities and develop best practice in supporting successful bids.

We are keen to hear from individuals with knowledge of UKRI schemes, or with experience supporting funding applications. However, we also encourage applicants with a basic understanding of the UK funding landscape and strong transferable skills from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Working here

In return for your dedication, you will enjoy plenty of scope to grow and thrive within a welcoming and professional team that shares your commitment to high standards and customer service.

We are committed to building an inclusive and diverse culture at the University and creating an environment where people can balance successful careers with their commitments and interests outside of work.  Our flexible working practices, including a hybrid working model, where employees can split their working time between the office and home, support our belief that this balance brings long-lasting benefits for our institution as well as our people.

We believe equality and diversity are fundamental to making the University of Southampton a vibrant, proud and successful organisation
