Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within the UCD School of Psychology.

The post-holder will undertake development, research and evaluation activities associated with the Junior engineer Development Initiative (JEDI) under the supervision of Dr. Katie Gilligan-Lee. Irish children begin to make subject choices that will influence their careers by the end of primary school. However, at this point, many children have no formal training in engineering and have limited, often inaccurate, views of engineers. Concurrently, we know that engineering companies struggle to meet recruitment targets and have particular difficulty recruiting a diverse workforce due to lower numbers of females and other children from broadening inclusion sub-groups entering the field of engineering. With these considerations in mind, we have designed the Junior Engineer Development Initiative (JEDI) project.

The JEDI project will use the latest research evidence in cognitive and social psychology, alongside best practices in educational intervention to develop a training programme for 6th class, primary school children. The JEDI programme will focus on a) developing children's understanding of the skills/attributes needed to be an engineer, and b) debunking stereotype myths relating to engineers. The post-holder will work on the JEDI project as part of a strong team of experts in psychology, STEM education, engineering and in intervention research including Dr. Jennifer Keenahan (University College Dublin), Dr. Jeffrey Buckley (Technological University of the Shannon), Dr. Nicola Broderick (Dublin City University) and Dr. A fe Hopkins-Doyle (University of Surrey).

You will be responsible to Dr Katie Gilligan-Lee in the School of Psychology, University College Dublin, where your post will be based. This is a 100% FTE post for 20 months. Salary Range: €44,347 - €44,941 Per Annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
