Faculty of Medicine, School of Clinical and Experimental Science

Medicine is a thriving and ambitious multidisciplinary Faculty - a national leader in medical education, with an outstanding reputation for our combined expertise in research and teaching. The Faculty Operating Service is a key professional service within the University, led by the Associate Director of Faculty Operations. The service works with Faculty Deaneries and Senior Leadership Teams to support the core business and underpins the achievement of the strategic objectives of the University.

We are seeking a motivated Senior Administrator to provide comprehensive operational assistance, administrative and secretarial support to the Head of School for Clinical and Experimental Sciences and Senior Academic staff within the Faculty of Medicine.  You will be responsible for the delivery of a high quality and efficient service for the management of the Head of School’s activities across the Faculty and the University. This role is based at the Southampton General Hospital as the main location.

Acting as the first point of contact for all visitors to the School, you will provide a full range of confidential administrative support, including scheduling diaries, arranging and servicing meetings, organising travel arrangements and responding to routine communications, as well as drafting replies or offering advice in more complex matters.

You will have relevant qualifications, substantial experience and success in similar high level roles in complex organisations. With high level IT skills, excellent accuracy, communication and organisation skills, you will be able to independently organise activities and refine processes according to strategic and management plans, accompanied by the ability to prioritise a conflicting workload.  The ability to use your own initiative is essential. You must have experience of handling highly confidential and sensitive information and dealing effectively with high profile external stakeholders.

Working at the University of Southampton, you are able to take advantage of the wide range of staff benefits.

The Faculty of Medicine holds an Athena SWAN Silver Award demonstrating commitment to equal opportunities and gender balance in the workplace.  The Faculty recognises that applicants may seek flexible working patterns which will be considered as part of the recruitment process.
