Applications are invited for a temporary post of Chief Technical Officer I within UCD National Virus Reference Laboratory.

The National Virus Reference Laboratory (NVRL) plays an important role in the Irish Health Services as the principal diagnostic and reference service for clinicians investigating virus infections. The laboratory offers approximately 170 tests for the diagnosis of at least 45 different pathogens and the current workload involves performing in excess of 1 million tests per annum. The laboratory provides a 24/7 clinical and technical on call service to deal with urgent testing requirements and to support the National Transplant Programme.

The NVRL is accredited by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a National Laboratory for Poliovirus, Influenza, Measles and Rubella. The NVRL is also accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) to undertake testing as detailed in the Schedule bearing the Registration Number 326MT, in compliance with the International Standard ISO/IEC 15189:2012 3rd Edition Medical laboratories - Requirements for quality and competence.

The main purpose of the post is to manage the timely and proper processing of all specimens received in the laboratory ensuring the delivery of a high-quality service in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The post holder is responsible for the management of relevant laboratory staff in the WHO Emerging Pathogen section in the performance of their duties and ensures compliance with the NVRL Quality Management System and Safety Policy.

Salary: 95 Chief Technical Officer\2013 €69,288 - €85,100 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
