Are you ready to embark on a groundbreaking journey into the captivating realm of quantum physics? Join us in exploring the phenomenon of quantum sensing hyperpolarization of spins induced by optical pumping, and revolutionize the field of biomedical imaging as a Research Associate at NYU Abu Dhabi's Center for Quantum and Topological Systems (CQTS).

As a Research Associate at CQTS, you will be part of a team leading the charge in unraveling the intricacies of quantum mechanics, focusing on electron spin dynamics when exposed to optical stimuli in an external magnetic field. Your goal is to employ advanced theoretical frameworks in quantum mechanics and cutting-edge computational techniques to conduct numerical simulations. These simulations will provide a profound understanding of electron spin hyperpolarization in organic chromophores coupled with radicals, in defect centers crystals and 2D materials. Our ultimate goal is development of quantum sensors for practical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). NYU Abu Dhabi is equipped with the state-of-the-art high field MRI, Electron Paramagnetic Resonance and Dynamic Nuclear Polarization setups to facilitate quantum sensing research. The fusion of quantum sensing and MRI technology holds the potential to unlock unprecedented levels of sensitivity, propelling scientific research and healthcare into new frontiers.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Quantum Physics (or a closely related area) from a recognized institution with a proven academic track record showcasing a strong theoretical background and proficiency in quantum mechanics. Knowledge of open quantum systems and perturbation theory to understand the effects of external stimuli such as light and microwave radiation will be highly beneficial. Prior experience in quantum experiments will be an added asset.

The appointment will be for a period of two years, and extensions to longer terms are possible upon review.

The terms of employment for these positions include a very competitive salary with additional attractive benefits, including generous housing allowance, medical insurance with access to world class facilities, annual home leave allowance, and (if applicable) dependent private school fees. Salaries are tax-free in the UAE (for US tax, the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion can be used). The researchers will have dedicated funds for traveling, computing, publications, etc. and will have access to excellent world-class research facilities.  The preferred starting date is Spring 2024, but earlier dates are also possible based on the excellence of the candidate and the processing steps.
