About the SGDP Centre 

The Social, Genetic & Developmental Psychiatry (SGDP) Department’s focus is on common psychiatric disorders that emerge in childhood such as mood disorders (anxiety and depression), ‘externalising’ disorders (disruptive behaviour including hyperactivity and addictions), and cognitive disorders (learning disabilities and the autistic spectrum). Scientists at the SGDP lead some of the UK’s foremost longitudinal cohort and twin studies including TEDS, eRISK, Dunedin, IMAGEN and GLAD. Collaborative interdisciplinary research and training are the hallmarks of the SGDP, with research encompassing behavioural genetics, molecular genetics, experimental psychology and psychiatry, and neuroimaging.

About the Faculty 

The IoPPN is a Faculty of King's College London and the largest academic community in Europe devoted to the study and prevention of mental illness and brain disease.

The complementary roles of the IoPPN are: (i) to pioneer research into new and improved ways of understanding and treating mental illness and brain disease; (ii) to offer advanced research training for psychiatrists, psychologists, neurologists and other scientific and paramedical workers.  The IoPPN's greatest strength is the interdisciplinary nature of both its research strategy and educational activities, providing unique opportunities for students and staff.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with strong data management experience to support a major new Wellcome Trust funded study predicting outcome following psychological interventions for anxiety. The Treatment Outcome and Prediction Study (TOPS) will involve 4,300 adults from several pre-existing cohorts undergoing psychological assessments followed by a remotely delivered psychological intervention (~12 sessions over ~4 weeks). In parallel, linked data from the NHS Talking Therapies service on participants from these same cohorts will be analysed. The cohorts involved include our Twins Early Development Study (TEDS) and the Genetic Links to Anxiety and Depression (GLAD) Study. 

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the quality and integrity of the data collected during the intervention study. This will include supporting governance documentation (e.g., DPIAs), overseeing data collection from the online intervention and secure storage of all data, cleaning data and deriving variables, and integrating linked data into the final dataset. The post holder will work closely with a linked data analyst to support the data manipulation required prior to the analysis of those data. The post holder will also maintain close links with the study teams for each of the cohorts involved in the study (e.g., updating contact details as appropriate). The post holder will be responsible for preparing and disseminating datasets to the wider team for analysis, with the opportunity to contribute to research publications. Finally, the post holder will prepare a final dataset at the study end along with all suitable documentation (e.g., depositing code on an open repository such as GitHub) to enable others to make use of this valuable resource.

The post holder will be based at the SGDP Centre, IoPPN Denmark Hill campus in London but there will be the option of working from home 1-2 days per week. Part-time job shares will be considered for this post.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1.      Holds a degree/professional qualification in an area relevant to this post (e.g., epidemiology, computer science, health informatics, psychology, statistics, or related disciplines) OR has substantial experience in data management for large research projects

2.      Experience of successfully managing data within a longitudinal study, including appropriate handling of confidential information and secure data storage.

3.      Experience of effectively handling large and complex datasets, including cleaning of data, database management, quality control, and derivation of variables.

4.      Experience of using statistical packages (e.g., R or Python), data manipulation languages and computerised systems for managing data and research-related information (e.g. SQL).

5.      Ability to work well within an interdisciplinary team environment.

6.      For a grade 7: Ability to effectively supervise more junior staff.

7.      For a grade 7: Demonstrated ability to work independently to deliver projects.

Desirable criteria

1.      Experience using version control systems such as GitHub.

2.      Experience in linking medical record data to cohort datasets.
