Job Details

The International School for Government is designed to equip policymakers and civil servants from across the globe to meet the challenges of the future, creating leaders capable of delivering the services that citizens expect today. Through education, research and public engagement, the School focuses on the most pressing policy problems, ensuring that policy professionals are prepared with both the hard and soft skills necessary to understand how power, influence and change move through political circles.

Having been established in 2019, we are now seeking a Director who will continue to develop the activity and reputation of the International School for Government, bringing together colleagues in the Policy Institute and the wider King’s community to offer a range of prestigious education offerings that meet a range of student needs, and address the needs and demands of governments across the world.

This is an opportunity to join an exciting, interdisciplinary faculty and an Institute that is uniquely positioned to bring together leading academics from a range of disciplines as well as leverage its location and deep connections to engage with policy makers around the world to the benefit of our academics and students.

The post-holder will need to demonstrate an outstanding academic profile in relevant areas of public administration or policy, alongside a capacity for developing and delivering major strategic initiatives in education and research. They will also demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset with a proven track record in developing and delivering new education programmes, financial planning and an ability to maintain core relationships with external and university stakeholders. They will be committed to mentorship and the development of staff across research and education. They will also be able to evidence leadership of people, programmes, and short courses, as well as contract management. It is also critical that the successful applicant can evidence a commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusivity with the ability to nurture a positive culture that supports the development of all staff and students.

For further information please visit the job description and to apply please go to the King’s College London Careers pages and submit the specified documentation. For an informal conversation please contact Jamie Surgenor at kings-search@kcl.ac.uk

The closing date for applications is Sunday 21st July at 23:59. The selection process will include a rigorous shortlisting and interview process.

The Faculty of Social Science & public Policy supports an inclusive culture and diversity for our staff and students. We are committed to encouraging further growth from diverse groups, and we welcome applications from people of all abilities and currently under-represented groups, which we are able to support with our range of flexible and inclusive benefits. We currently have an underrepresentation from women, BAME, disabilities and LGBTQ communities. As such, we particularly welcome applicants from these groups.

The university is in the top seven UK universities for research earnings and has an overall annual income of more than £684 million.
