ENGLISH LANGUAGE CENTRE

The English Language Centre (ELC), with a strong commitment to quality learning and teaching, aims to enhance students’ communication skills, foster students’ independent, life-long English language learning and whole-person development. The ELC is mainly responsible for offering English subjects for Language and Communication Requirements which are mandatory to all undergraduate students of the University, Discipline-Specific Requirements subjects tailor-made for more than 20 professional fields of the University’s programmes, and numerous electives designed to enhance students’ communicative competencies. It also coordinates a number of extra-curricular activities and workshops and provides diverse self-learning materials and counselling services through the Centre for Independent Language Learning. The ELC currently has around 80 teaching staff members, with a group of about 25 technical, research and administrative personnel. The appointee will be required to (a) teach a range of courses in English for Academic Purposes (EAP), English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and communication skills for undergraduate students; (b) engage in teaching of other English language enhancement initiatives of the ELC; (c) participate in the pedagogical development and administration of the ELC’s teaching and learning activities, including promoting student language skills through technology-enhanced language teaching methods; and (d) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Centre or his/her delegates.
Applicants should have (a) a recognised degree in a related discipline; (b) a postgraduate teaching qualification; (c) possess at least three years’ post-qualification relevant teaching experience at tertiary level (experience in teaching upper secondary classes may also be considered); (d) be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching; and (e) be a highly proficient English speaker.
Preference will be given to teachers with experience or expertise in incorporating GenAI in language teaching, expertise in discipline-related English, digital literacies, blended and online learning, and assessment design.

Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
