About the role:

Reporting directly to the Chief Innovation and Enterprise Officer (CIEO), the Director of KnEx is responsible for

the leading and managing the teams with oversight of knowledge transfer activities for intellectual property, commercialisation and development and research contracts funding from public and private funders. 

As Director of KnEx you will:

  • Develop and implement the university wide Innovation and Enterprise strategy
  • Represent the university externally (regionally, nationally, and internationally) in promoting the quality and value of the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem of the university
  • Create a shared vision for the KnEx approach to research-related contracts and commercialisation of IP
  • Contribute to and influence national and international research related policies and practices
  • Implement quality and professional standards for service delivery
  • Manage the budget and finances of KnEx, including the patent budget

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • A university degree in a relevant subject and be comfortable discussing a broad range of scientific, technological, societal and cultural topics (An MBA or Post-graduate degree would be an advantage)
  • At least 10 years’ relevant experience of research contracts gained in a university or industry environment
  • High standard and knowledge of all areas of law related to IP, research contracts and commercialisation gained in a university or industry environment
  • Successful engagement with research funders and fellow HEIs
  • A proven track record of managing senior staff

Salary: This appointment will be made on the Senior Administrative 1 salary scale (€137,307-€173,571) per annum) in line with current Government pay policy
