The PhD candidate will use genetic manipulation of selected bacteria, including heterologous expression and engineering (using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing system) of natural product biosynthesis genes in specially designed hosts. The recombinant bacteria will be analyzed for production of novel natural products, which will be then purified and subjected to structural and biological characterization.
