Do you enjoy working with young people, are you curious, and do you want to pass on your knowledge?  As a Senior Lecturer, you play a crucial role in educating students. In addition to providing a solid academic education, we also place a special emphasis on the personal development of students. We support students in developing curiosity and critical thinking, thereby creating a solid foundation for the professional challenges of the next generation.

Your workplace:

The historical rectorate of studies at the Faculty of History and Cultural Studies covers five institutes and offers six Master's programs as well as two Bachelor's programs (including teacher education). It has about 6,600 students.

As a Senior Lecturer, you will teach primarily in the Interdisciplinary Master program "Contemporary History and Media", but also in other study programs in the field of history.

The employment level of 57.1% includes an average teaching load of 8 semester hours per week ("Semesterwochenstunden", SWS) of academic teaching. The principal willingness to increase the level of employment to up to 100%, subject to university requirements, is welcomed. In case of positive evaluation at the end of the fixed-term period of 4 years, in mutual agreement the position can be changed to a permanent position. 

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in teaching, research & administration, which means:

  • You hold courses on BA and MA level within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement, i.e. an average of 8 semester hours per week.
  • You contribute to the (further) development of course and examination formats.
  • We expect you to continuously integrate the current state of the art into your teaching, to particiate in didactic trainings and to conduct research in periods without courses.
  • You will take on administrative tasks, especially in the administration of teaching.
  • The focus of teaching duties lies in the areas of media history from the 19th century to the present, media theories and contemporary history.

  • PhD in the field of 20th and/or 21st century history / media history
  • Several years of self-reliant teaching at a post-secondary educational institution
