About the Role

The appointee will work closely with the Head of the Department of Rural Health, Clinical School, University, and ERH’s clinical staff, as well as Deputy Directors of Medical Student Education at Ballarat, Shepparton, and Wangaratta. Success in this role depends on developing strong relationships with partner health service providers and actively contributing to all activities of the Rural Clinical School beyond a narrow academic focus.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Work collaboratively with the Medical Education Team of Echuca Regional Health to ensure the clinical curriculum meets the needs of University of Melbourne RCS MD2 students based at the Echuca campus.
  • Meet with the Echuca based RCS MD2 students weekly during academic terms to provide pastoral support, academic support, and to enable students to gain the best of their educational experience at ERH.
  • Work collaboratively with the Deputy Directors of Medical Student Education (Sub-Deans) in Ballarat, Shepparton, and Wangaratta to develop and implement the clinical curriculum throughout the RCS and to manage the students moving between nodes of the Clinical School.
  • Actively participate at Department and Clinical School meetings. 

Who We Are Looking For

You will need strong interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external, and collaborate effectively. Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills, along with a willingness to engage with university procedures, are essential. Additionally, you should have the capability to develop good working relationships with medical practitioners and other health professionals across various settings.

You will also have:

  • A medical qualification recognisable in Australia and Fellowship of an Australian College (e.g. FRACP, FRACS, FRACGP, etc.) or equivalent postgraduate degree, or another clinical qualification, recognisable in Australia, highly relevant to medical education together with extensive experience in medical education, including teaching medical students. 
  • Independent of the university appointment, the role holder will work clinically in the Echuca region and have involvement with national bodies appropriate to clinical specialty with evidence of national recognition and standing
  • Evidence of significant contribution to independent and teambased teaching of medical student
  • Experience in clinical teaching, medical education, and curriculum delivery in the clinical field

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
