Description
The Chaudhury laboratory in the Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a highly motivated research assistant to work on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the association between stress and sleep.
The successful applicant will help in the day to day running of the lab that will involve placing order for chemicals and equipment when needed and coordinating undergraduate lab training. Moreover, the applicant will be involved in a fascinating project to elucidate molecular pathways and neural circuits that play a role in the association between stress and sleep-wake cycle. We have recently published 2 papers that report abnormal sleep architecture (as measured by EEG recordings) predicts vulnerability to stress (Radwan et al., 2021a, b). We have just submitted a 3rd paper using detailed statistical analysis to further investigate the predictive power of abnormal sleep architecture on vulnerability/susceptibility to stress. We are currently working on a 4th paper focused on genome analysis in brain regions that modulate. To follow up from these studies the research assistant will investigate putative circuits that drive the differential sleep-wake architecture in stress susceptible and resilient mice. For this study the
Applicant may need to learn the basics of the the following techniques: in-vivo recording techniques such as fiber photometry and EEG, rodent stress model (chronic social defeat stress) and in-vitro patch clamp electrophysiology. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists, graduate students and undergraduate students.
Applicants must have a BSc in Biology or related field. General lab experiences are a requirement and experience in neuroscience would be highly desirable.
For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae with full publication list, statement of research interests and three letters of reference, all in PDF format. If you have any questions, please email Prof. Chaudhury at dc151@nyu.edu
The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
