Employment Type: Full time, 35 hours per week

Duration: 12 months fixed term  

Remuneration: Level B Academic $119,440 + 17% super + annual leave loading

Location: Kensington campus, NSW 

Why this role matters:

The Senior Research Associate (Level B) will contribute towards the research effort of UNSW at the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA) and develop their research expertise in epidemiology of dementia (with special expertise in statistics) through the projects relevant to their field of research. 

The Senior Research Associate will provide research expertise in projects related to epidemiological projects within CHeBA-led consortia as well as other collaborative projects in which CHeBA participates. This includes conducting analyses of datasets of three major longitudinal studies and other associated projects conducted by CHeBA to enhance the scientific output from these studies, establishing a personal research portfolio, and assisting students and other researchers in high level statistical analyses. 

The role of Senior Research Associate will report to the CHeBA Co-Director and has no direct reports.

Skills Required:

  • A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
  • A strong grounding in epidemiology or biostatistics through course work, research or other experience is desirable.
  • An excellent academic track record with demonstrated and proven experience in the use of statistical packages such as R, SPSS, SAS, or STATA in performing statistical procedures commonly used in the analysis of behavioural science or medical data such as imputation of missing data, linear mixed modelling, structural equation modelling or twin data analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills together with excellent writing skills with demonstrated experience in writing in high quality scientific papers and technical reports.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and deal with several modalities of data, including, for example, health, neuroimaging and genetics data.
  • High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritise work in the context of multiple studies in order to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor and/or supervise students, as appropriate for a Level B academic position. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
