About the Chemical & Biochemical Sciences Green Process Engineering (CBS)
The Chemical & Biochemical Sciences Green Process Engineering Department (CBS) is a component of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). The main objective of CBS is to set up a
distinctive research-teaching program, of international level, to meet the research and teaching challenges of UM6P, in particular on green and environmental chemistry applied to all aspects of chemical
sciences: organic and inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical biology, biochemical and thermal reactions.

Research at CBS is organized around several major areas, which aim to answer challenging industrial questions, from complex chemical and biochemical reactions to scale-up and validation of process
engineering. CBS projects aim at an in-depth understanding of the molecular mechanisms of all transformations in order to propose new original alternatives in terms of efficiency, environmental
friendliness and sustainability.

Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified post-doctoral researcher in organic/inorganic chemistry to join our research team for an exciting project focused on the development of novel synthetic methods for the production of phosphorus derivatives. These derivatives play a crucial role in various industrial applications, including fine chemistry, catalysis, agriculture, and life science. For instance, phosphorus-based chemicals are essential in hydrometallurgy, ceramics, and serve as building blocks for RNA and DNA. Additionally, their synthetic analogues are critical clinical drugs for treating a wide range of diseases, including hepatitis C virus and Covid-19. Expertise in coordination chemistry and/or process developement would be a plus for this position.

Responsibilities:
As a Post-Doctoral Researcher, your responsibilities will include:
Green Synthetic Methods: Conducting research to establish innovative and environmentally friendly synthetic methodologies for accessing a diverse range of phosphorus derivatives. This will involve the creation of phosphorus–carbon bonds using techniques such as photochemical reactions, mechanochemistry, multi-component reactions, atoms and steps economy, and both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis.
Experimental Validation: Designing and performing experiments at both laboratory and pilot scales to validate the feasibility and scalability of the developed synthetic processes for potential industrial applications.
Organometallic and Phosphorus Chemistry: Applying your expertise in organometallic and phosphorus chemistry to design and develop synthetic methodologies, analyze chemical structures, and characterize synthesized compounds.
Sustainability: Ensuring that all research activities align with green and sustainable principles, with a focus on reducing the environmental impact associated with phosphorus derivative synthesis.
Publication and Reporting: Collaborating with the research team to write scientific reports, prepare research publications, and effectively communicate results and data analysis in both French and English.

Candidate Criteria

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a related field, accompanied by a distinguished record of research accomplishments.
  • Demonstrated research experience in the area of green chemistry and organic phosphorus derivatives is essential. This may include published papers, conference presentations, or a strong thesis on the topic.
  • Proficiency in organic synthesis techniques and methodologies is crucial, as you'll likely be working on designing and synthesizing novel phosphorus-containing compounds.
  • Proficiency in various analytical techniques such as NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, IR spectroscopy, and HPLC, which are commonly used to characterize organic compounds.
  • Proven excellence in teaching and mentorship, evidenced by innovative pedagogical approaches and contributions to student development.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a commitment to interdisciplinary research and innovation.
  • Alignment with UM6P's mission of promoting sustainable economic development through research and innovation.

Application and Selection:
The application folder must contain:

  • Detailed CV,
  • Cover letter along with a synthetic presentation of the background, research works, projects and activities, publications, key achievements,
  • Research and teaching plans, entrepreneurial ideas and concepts if any, and services to UM6P community: max 3-4 pages,
  • 3 reference letters.

UM6P.
