Achieving the Remarkable

The University of Southampton is in the top 1% of world universities and is one of the UK’s top 15 research-intensive universities. Committed to excellence in all we do, we are growing and investing in our research and people to accelerate our remarkable achievements. With particular focus on four key impact themes chosen to build on the university’s existing strengths and to address the most complex societal and environmental issues: Artificial Intelligence, sustainability and resilience, decarbonisation and engineering better health, this role is integral to our aim of making a lasting difference.

Imagine working in an environment where you are at the forefront of Electronics and Computer Science, pursuing your research interests and inspiring the next generation. ECS is a progressive school with a history of pushing the boundaries of what we teach our students – and what they teach us. We value and support our staff in pursuing their research and enterprise activities within their fields of interest. We have a strong interdisciplinary tradition, reflected in investments such as RAI-UK and the AI for Sustainability CDT, and a research environment that is world leading (REF 2021). Our reputation for research, enterprise, and teaching is quite exceptional.

The role

You will provide professional, academic, and thought leadership in Computer Science in a relevant area such as logic and reasoning, verification, HCI, human-centred AI, computer engineering, and automation and robotics. You’ll contribute to our international research profile through world-leading research within or across disciplines, obtaining steady funding from diverse sources, contribute to the impact agenda, and support colleagues in their careers. You will contribute to the development and delivery of the high-quality research-led education that we are so proud of and support our inclusive and collaborative culture.

About you

To apply, you will need a PhD, or equivalent professional qualifications, with a strong publication record, and able to demonstrate delivery of research-led teaching in a manner that meaningfully engages students. It is essential that you have a track-record of innovative research in Computer Science and have a desire to build a strong research team with our support.
