Applications are invited for the position of Research Assistant (RA) to join a multi-disciplinary group lead by University College Dublin and collaborating with Queen's University Belfast, University of Galway, Mzuzu University and the Malawian Ministry of Health. The overarching goal of this study is to improve the management of childhood pneumonia. The candidate will be based in Ireland but travel may be required. The BIOTOPE 2 project is funded by Science Foundation Ireland and Irish Aid.

The successful applicant will be part of a research group comprising clinicians, computer scientists, research scientists, and postgraduate research students investigating and assessing the role of machine learning in the identification of severe pneumonia and blood based biomarkers in identifying bacterial infection as well as other global health issues. The position will involve establishing and maintaining cloud and server infrastructures (e.g. AWS EC2) and configuring, securing, and maintaining project data via various digital data collection tools (e.g. RedCap, DHIS2 etc). The successful candidate will also develop a public health dashboard for monitoring childhood pneumonia.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, technically competent and capable of working independently and have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills including the ability to work closely with others as part of a team, while taking personal responsibility for assigned tasks, play an active research role in systems evaluation including protocol development, ethics applications, data collection and paper writing. A good track record of project management would be an advantage.

Research Assistant Salary Range: €30,025 - €33,881

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
